The Development plan studio focuses on the comprehensive analysis of the existing urban fabric under the prescribed land use and regulations. The studio utilizes the city of Surat as its textbook and work space by the parametric analysis leading to the development of fundamental proficiency in the creation of a Comprehensive Development Plan by scrutinizing the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches, exploring a vast array of tools including zoning and development regulations. The studio helps in deciphering the existing urban fabric and its compatible manifestations that take place due to the absence of a tailored land use zoning and development regulations, stating the need for the change of approach in each city. It aided in the exploration of non-conservative and liberal approach of zoning balanced by the re-conceptualization of the development regulations for the same. Thus the proposals attempt to instigate a positive yet adaptive urban manifestation in the city of Surat.
