Restoration Toolbox

The research explores available literature on timber as a traditional building material by clearing the wood structure concepts and the agents that can damage the timber structures. Further, approaches to the conservation of timber structures have been reflected upon, followed by an analysis of existing photographic samples from five traditional timber houses within Ahmedabad’s walled city. The analysis results are based entirely on visual observations through existing photographic samples due to the pandemic’s travel restrictions, and no further investigation has been carried out on the site. To conclude the restoration toolbox, processes have been presented through illustrations with a list of resources found in the last chapter of this research.
