Stitching Pockets on fabric - Crafts & Redevelopment

The site being Jawahar Kala Kendra, has  symmetrical grid followed in plan on which the iconic sandstone cladded walls are built. An approach to achieve ornamentation by introducing a contrasting idea was taken and the grid of the symmetrical square plan was divided further using asymmetrical grid for the interior space. The site is a crafts center and the design becomes an attempt to redevelop the culture of spaces enriching those crafts in such a way that people can occupy the spaces for contemporary exhibitions of traditional crafts and the library/reading spaces for history and documentation of crafts. Link
