Water and Sanitation

Water and Sanitation

What

Infrastructure refers to the physical components of interrelated systems providing services essential to enable, sustain, and enhance societal living conditions. Providing infrastructure services falls under the ambit of the urban local body. In the exercise, the final output was a series of maps depicting water supply, solid waste generation and collection, and storm-water management.

Why

Network infrastructure including water supply, solid waste collection, and drainage network forms the backbone of a robust and efficient city and is essential to cater to high urban densities. A good understanding of the citywide variation in demand/consumption of water supply and generation of solid waste is essential for effective planning, and management of these services.

How

In order to map infrastructure services, students undertook detailed on-site studies and surveys, mapped the dependency of the community on said services and the efficiency of the system.
