Material Recovery Facility at RTS

In the existing value chain, the unsegregated waste is collected and transported from Refuse transfer stations to Pirana dumpsite, which has resulted in a dilapidated situation in and around Pirana dumpsite. Though AMC has constructed a new sanitary landfill site, it is not being used because of the lack in source segregation and recycling facilities. The proposal of Material Recovery facility at refuse transfer stations is intended in maximizing the material recycling by providing the space for segregating the waste with the help of informal workers. The potential step in the proposal would be the formalization of informal workers as they are major contributors to recycling the waste.
