The portfolio encompasses a study of 1 sq. km area of Semariya Chowk located in the central part of Satna city. The main objective of the Understanding the City studio is to develop adequate skills to collect data, analyse it and formulate an understanding of all the components that form the urban infrastructure of the city. The data presented in this portfolio is the compilation of work produced through site surveys, technical software, research documents, Census data, development plans, Interviews and surveysCities are dynamic entities that constantly change it’s size, form, social and physical structure through time. They are formed and evolved by the people who created it and who have been using and modifying it to enhance their quality of life. Thus, cities are a reflection of it’s people. Understanding the various systems that form it, it’s demography, physical, social, economic and political infrastructure, would help us understand the metabolism of the city.
