The Rise of Innovation Districts: New Town

The studio focuses on the New Town area in Greater Kolkata which is a township on the outskirts of the city, proposed in the late 1990s to deal with the housing shortage and congested CBD of the city, however currently facing a stagnated market. Recently, 2 major projects -  Kolkata metro line 6, connecting the area to the airport, and Bengal Silicon Valley, IT agglomerate - have been undertaken which is expected to increase the demand and rate of development in the area.  The proposed micro-level plan was a response to the above two drivers such that the development in the area is enhanced and caters to the future growth in the area, with the Bengal Silicon Valley project acting as the anchor institute for development.
