Towards Kolkata's IT District- LAP for BSV, Kolkata

New Town is a satellite town of Kolkata, located in the eastern bank of Hoogli River. It is developed to decongest the already existing CBD of BBD Bagh. The proposed Bengal Silicon Valley Project of 88 hectares in Action Area II envisions the area to develop as an IT district of Kolkata, backed by the West Bengal IT policy of 2018 which provides special incentives to companies planning to set up their units. The proposed metro line no 6 from New Garia to Airport with metro stations Titumir, Sub CBD 2 and Convention Centre are expected to increase the development of the area further. With that context, a Local Area Plan (LAP) focuses on reaping  benefits from the expected potential of the area and thereby helping it in becoming an IT hub of Kolkata with Transit Oriented Development around metro stations. As the development authority (WBHIDCO), this plan provides adequate infrastructure required for an IT Hub as identified from case studies and also, aims to capture the land value potential which is currently missing in the area.
