The Kitchen Station

This project attempts to uplifts the women of Thaltej by providing them opportunities of earning their own livelihood to be able to become independent and reclaim the public spaces. With the idea of a community-kitchen, this project brings out the keyspace of a home to the public-space thus bringing women out of their homes and using other activities of the program to further aid in expanding the scope of skill development for the women. With the help of the metro, the community kitchen expands its reach to the entire city offering tiffin services at nominal prices. The spatial experience of the entire project reflects openness, porosity, and visual connections for eyes on the street for a safer pedestrian experience. Everything functioning together in coherence under a single roof. This further dissolves the difference of the transport infrastructure from the rest of the building to give a new definition to the typology of transit hubs so that it mingles with the community's built-form in a more meaningful manner.
