Bengal Partition occurred twice. The first Partition of Bengal took place in 1905 when British Raj under George Nathaniel Curzon (the then Viceroy of India) implemented a territorial reorganization of the Bengal Presidency for administrative purposes.Partition has been one of the most harrowing experiences for the people of Bengal. They lost precious lives, immeasurable property and experienced pain of rootlessness. They saw the partition as the rupture of their motherland. The museum is designed as a Lieux de memoire which invokes memory of Partition through empathy and spectacle with help of the main architectural element used which is the wall.
