The aim of the design is to memorialize 'The Great Calcutta Killings' or 'The Direct Action Day'. This was the day on which Calcutta turned into a graveyard and marked the biggest communal violence in the history of India. The main intension behind memorializing such a horrific event which nobody prefer to remember is to make people aware of the dreadful things and sacrifices which their ancestors had gone through. The idea of 'Divided or Destroyed' was influenced in the process of developing the rupture. This visually gave a shattered effect throughout which was sutured by the skin.
