Collecting Frames

OBSERVATIONS - Modern men and women buy jewelry, cosmetics and accessories in large quantities. There is an emphasis in culture and social media to keep up a good appearance with changing trends and styles. There is a morning routine of getting dressed that is crucial to personal identity of young people. 
OBJECTIVE - Re-design a Vanity unit for display + storage + dressing up in modern homes. The unit will hold jewelry, accessories and cosmetics. 
USER GROUP - Millennial & gen z men & women who enjoy getting dressed. The users have one or more items in the three categories. 
PRIMARY & SECONDARY ACTIVITIES - Storage of items; display of necessary objects and getting dressed and vanity aspects. The secondary activities include self care processes, collection of items over time and sorting of items. 
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY - Observe people getting dressed; Study ergonomics of the users; Study sizing and dimensions of the objects to be displayed; Make a miniature model of a display and vanity unit; Analyse the pros and cons of such a unit in everyday use; Identify requirements and intent of the design. 
OUTPUT - The solution is to enable display + storage + dressing up for modern men and women in their homes. It could be: Simple & compact; Modular; Expandable; Portable; Easy to use or access; Highlights the objects of the collection; Suitable lighting; Embrace technology; Aesthetically pleasing.

Iconic piece - Selecting and studying an existing piece of furniture that presents the best solution for a jewelry display stand. The chosen piece is a three frame ash wood display stand designed by Pam Marcisz for exhibitions.

Making a miniature model - To make an exact replica of the iconic piece in 1:5 scale. To then analyse and understand the pros and cons of the design.
