Haptics for insight

The proposed site is located in the urban crawl of Ahmedabad. The existing site is a fruit market in which the vendors sell their products in wholesale. The surrounding site is also maintained for the purpose of selling and buying things. In this context the program of Public Library is the different aspect in the neighboring of Manek chowk area. In this site area an existing Old Library ( Dadabhai Navroji Library )which is located 200m from the fruit market and the building doesn’t have the condition for renovation. The rare books of collections is not preserved properly. The proposed site has to be considered for Adaptive reuse in which it deals with the issues of conservation and heritage policies. While buildings become unsuitable for their programmatic requirements, as progress in technology, politics, and economics moves faster than the built environment, adaptive reuse comes in as a sustainable option for the reclamation of sites. The library needs to be transformed into an active social space. A public library is just not a space to access physical and digital data but also creates an environment to initiate interaction of people and exchange of ideas takes place among all people of diverse backgrounds and age groups visiting the library. For many decades space was a solely architectural and practical issue, but now library space can be more than just functional.
