CITY INFRASTRUCTURE PLANNING STUDIO

The City Infrastructure Planning (CIP) Studio is structured as an introduction to infrastructure planning that portrays ways to provide adequate, equitable and sustainable distribution of infrastructure for present and future needs based on ground realities. Infrastructure means the structures or systems which are not visible by naked eye. It is something on basis of which we undergo our daily activities and the underlying permanent facilities, normally provided by the government and that drives the economy of any administrative area. CIP focuses on the municipal infrastructure services and other infrastructures services on which a city thrives on. Planning infrastructure necessities for a city and nearby areas around it in order to make resourceful use of the available sources and meet the needs. To form a CIP, Surat has been chosen as the city of study where macro level analysis has been done. These include its environmental factors, infrastructures- physical, blue and green, social and economic and disaster management facilities. Following the macro level analysis, a focus area on Surat that showed infrastructural opportunities and challenges was chosen to do micro level assessment on the same infrastructural parameters. Various experts consultations, site visits, focused group discussions and household surveys were conducted to have a better understating of the areas infrastructure. A total of 10 proposals on the needed infrastructure based on technology and good practices, case studies, institutional framework and financial aspect were proposed to be converged and integrated to form a resilient and sustainable City Infrastructure Plan.
