First life, then spaces, then buildings – the other way around never works
 India has a rich Heritage. However, recently Urban spaces in the cities are facing a decline in the quality and character of space. Spaces have merely become enclosures and containment areas and normally not respond to those who occupy. The Solution focuses on developing design through a synthesis of understandings. It is derived from the social and cultural patterns of the community life and theories of Christian Norberg Schulz, Jan Gehl and Amos Rapoport. The idea is to construct the character of place by imbibing Everyday life and events, as manifested in community and neighborhood level. Existing spaces have been interpreted and translated into new urban development for the area. The current urban policy for redevelopment of old existing neighbourhoods in Ahmedabad serves the background for exploration of the critical issue of humanizing urban spaces. The intervention attempts to create a place with the view to enhance and strengthen the existing and new human experience in neighbourhood public place while retaining the existing community and exploring potential densification.
