New Faisalnagar is an informal settlement that is mainly home to Muslim families who were displaced due to the communal riots of the late 90’s and the early 2000’s. In the evening the area sees a surplus of men on the streets and in the main ‘maidan’. Therefore, this project aims to provide a platform for women to gather and interact, with the help of a mobile intervention, i.e., a mobile cart of ‘Lari’. This lari would primarily sell sanitary napkins, aiming to get rid of the stigma that comes with this item. This would occur through healthy conversations between the women from the community and the female representatives from the NGO, who would also be in charge of the lari. Additionally, extra items would be sold and displayed in the lari, inviting women and children to gather around the lari. This is further incentivised by the provision of seating around the lari in the form of a khatla which would attract women towards the lari. Link to video and portfolio is uploaded here.
