RAJKOT : Strategic Mobility Plan (2041)

The studio spring 2020’s objective was to understand urban strategic mobility planning and process involved. The studio framework was divided into three stages. Level 1 included the literature review of existing conditions of transport planning across India as well as comparing the strategic mobility plans of abroad to better understand the objectives and methodologies involved to study transport system of the city. It also helps gaining the insights of proposal formulation. Second level included the extensive data collection in which we carried land-use survey, road inventory survey, 1658 House-hold surveys, 327 activity surveys, some volume count surveys, speed and delay surveys, junction surveys, spot speed data, accidents data which further helped analyze the sociology – economical characteristics of the Rajkot city. The third and final level was to look at the different patterns of the city growth and evaluate the feasibility of growth scenario of the city. As transport being the major catalyst for the economic growth of the city, the third level elaborated on the economical and demo-graphical aspects for envisaging the city accordingly for 2041 along identifying the transport key issues. After addressing those key issues for now and future, explaining about : goal, vision and objective based on the existing analysis on the transport and considering the present characteristics of the city, identifying the solutions to those key issues, leading to fulfillment of the expected goal & vision for the city by year 2041.
