The heritage of Jaipur city plays a key role in the identity of the city. It is famous as an architectural and cultural marvel and is one of the key nodes in the Golden Triangle tourism circuit. The walled city of Jaipur still today serves as a central business district with a large concentration of tourist attractions and markets. Under the Indian Smart City Mission, Jaipur smart city proposal (SCP) focuses on pan-city and area-based development projects (ABD). The proposed project is under (ABD) which focuses on improving the market experience, enhancing the visual appeal of the market, and creating a seamless and effortless commute between tourist locations and markets through increased walkability and last-mile connectivity. The primary reason to choose this market is that it is the only market that remains active till midnight and comprises a mix of activities along with shopping which makes it a major attraction. Under SCP there is a proposal to pedestrianize this market, along with improvement and beautification of the facades, restoration of the heritage buildings, smart roads with the integrated traffic management system and to create a night market, which would increase the time spent by tourists in the city. In the present scenario, the market is stressed with traffic congestion, roadside unorganized parking, encroachment by the hawkers, and dilapidated and haphazard development along the edge. The upper floor of the arcade remains inactive and vacant, which makes it perceived as less safe. The proposed project aims to enhance the market experience and strengthen, facilitate, and celebrate the markets. The pedestrianization of the street will improve the quality of the shopping experience. Night market attracts tourists as it is a one-stop destination for entertainment, recreation, and shopping at extended hours. The overall transformed market will improve economic output by increasing tourist and local footfall. This design proposal further can be used as a replicable smart model and scaled up to adjacent bazaars, in the walled city.
