Reminiscence: Perceiving Space Through Memory and Body

The three-stage design process began with expressing our memories and associations. To comprehend the meanings of solitude, intimacy, and congregation, my Secret Place is established in a 6m pit in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Using the understandings gained from this exercise, I developed the Secret Place into a Childhood Home for myself and my family. As part of stage three, the home rises from the pit to meet the neighborhood and becomes a library and cafe for the community. By utilizing memories from the past, the design process involved recollecting experiences and incorporating them into the design through several iterations.
