Urbanization is on a rise all around the world. Rapid and unplanned growth in urban areas is often associated with population growth; depletion in natural resources due to overuse; change in land use and built – up areas and drastic reduction of green covers; surface imperviousness; reduction in forest area cover; increase in pollution, increase in waste generated; loss of Biodiversity; etc.
A landfill site (also known as a tip, dump, rubbish dump, garbage dump or dumping) is a site for the disposal of waste materials. Landfill is the oldest and most common form of waste disposal. Landfills have the potential to cause a number of issues. Infrastructure disruption, such as damage to access roads by heavy vehicles, may occur. Pollution of the local environment, such as contamination of groundwater or aquifers or soil contamination may occur, as well. Other potential issues include wildlife disruption, dust, odor, noise pollution, reduced local property values, Leachate, decomposed gases, and other such nuisances.
