By asking what how architectural interventions can transform aspects of the human condition, the studio will challenge the idea of design as a purely formal or a narrow problem solving exercise. Students will be expected to engage with the social, political, economic, environmental, and historical dimensions of a given context and condition. The site is located in complex urban context in Ahmedabad. The focus on transformation requires specific ways of engaging with, documenting and analysis of the site. Students will develop a brief for an architectural intervention and then demonstrate, through their individual projects, the transformative potential of design.
