BREATHING HIGHRISE - A Vertical Farm in Concrete Jungle

Architectural Evolution has always been out of necessity. It has revolved around basic necessities like shelter, water, security etc. but, food still remains the unexplored category when it comes to Architecture. The population in the world is constantly rising and hence, considering the rate of increase in Urbanization, there is a need to strengthen this relationship between Food and Architecture in order for us to sustain. Vertical farms can help in solving this issue. Vertical farming reduces the water consumption, methods like hydroponics eliminates the use of soil in turn eliminating crop diseases. Also, it can give yield throughout the year and will not be dependent on seasons. The intent of the design program is to explore and design spaces which are conducive to this type of farming inside the building. The design program revolves around five important categories – Food Production, Food Processing, Food Distribution, Food Consumption and Public engagement in Food.
