In pursuit of the water

Moist Evergreen and Mangrove swamp forest  | Vembanad Lake system | Southern Western Ghats | Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary |
The forest is a part of the larger hydrological system of the Vembanad lake and acts as a lifeline for the lake by nurturing the millions of birds in the wetlands of Kuttanad. This study attempts to comprehend the swamp system adjoining the lake. Various anthropogenic factors have led to the severe fragmentation of the system. The study aims to understand the modifications of these swamps to the overall wetland ecosystem.  While experiencing the journey through the forest, one would take a pause at the large swamp in the forest and observe the rich biodiversity that exists with the urban fabric. Such vestiges remind one of the seamless systems that once existed as “One forest “
