School as a Montessori classroom

Amidst the dense neighborhood of the old city of Ahmedabad, lies a 100 years old school. A redevelopment has been proposed, combining the adjacent temple complex to introduce a socio-cultural environment into an existing “only academics” scenario. Under the Montessori guidelines, the project aims to redesign the school complex to provide for playful inter spatial configurations. There is an attempt to completely restructure the pedagogical narration of the building, and imagine the Montessori classroom environment into the entire school building. For the same, the classrooms have been replaced by zones of activities that would be used by all age groups.
