SANGRAHA | A Community Space in Mandu

How does span affect space and how do we negotiate between the two? This was the process involved in designing this project. Sangraha is a community space for a village settlement in Jamnya village, Mandu, Madhya Pradesh. A pure brick masonry structure, primarily designed to hold a water tank, is repeated and spanned across using a cross vault to form a larger space. The strict symmetry in the design thus formed is tried to break by creating levels in the plinth. Further articulation of spaces is done according to the specific functions thought for the spaces.
