Enthral- Exploring Traditional Crafts

It is difficult to capture someone's attention for a long time. So, it can only be achieved by making something intricate and playful. So the exercises included working with details, make something playful and explore traditional crafts. In the story book illustration, attention is captured by inculcating details in background while in narrative story of lockdown colors of Pithora art is added. For the narrative map context is added which correlates with the foreground and the background.  Bandhej, a game related to colors and motifs of Bandhani which make it more craft orientated and playful.

Bandhej, a game based on the craft of Gujarat, called Bandhani. It is a game for kids of 7-10 years. It will teach kids more about Bandhani craft, like its motif, colors, etc.

Many components are used in the Bandhej game, like memory game board, motif tiles, tiles to hide the motif, different colored grids, pearls, tiles with different motifs and colors on it.

Bandhej game includes two booklets, Thematic booklet and Rule book. Thematic booklet gives information about the Bandhani craft, like its history, manufacturing process, etc. Rule book states the rules of the game, components of the game, how to play the game and many more information about the game.

Packaging of the game, Bandhej is done in a cubical box. The information on the box gives the basic idea of the game. The poster is used for the advertising of the game with some information and components shown. The colors used for the packaging and poster are warm and are shades of crimson red, which are mostly used in Bandhani craft.

Narrative map of Kutch is mainly focused on the hand movements of the artisans. From the giant hands made from the materials of different crafts, threads are extended and from that hand movements of different artisans doing variety of crafts are shown. All the hands are connected by a single thread because thread is the basic material used in all the crafts.

Narrative story of my life during lockdown is represented. Also the activities are mentioned in the timeline. Both of them are inspired by the Pithora Art and to understand the colors and lines of Pithora Art, emulation was made.

The Bengali story, The Odyssey of Sheamonto is illustrated with combination of bright and warm colors. The story was narrated by Kafeel Jafri.

Different workshops like Gond painting workshop, Mata-ni-Pachedi workshop, etc were held which helped in understanding the craft better and also interact with the artisans.

Field visit to Kutch, Surendranagar, etc helped in understanding the life of artisans, there living conditions, there way of working and many more things about craft.
