Living up in ECHELONS: Migrant Housing

The project ‘Echelons’ is a mass housing project in Nehru Nagar, Surat, Gujarat. The project focuses on creating housing as a new means of space, interactions and shared spaces. A minimal attempt has been made in creating more individual spaces for the live work community in Nehru Nagar. The focus of the entire process was to create more common and shared spaces within the housing that can bring in more interactions and generate more activities. The project has been largely dealt with in response to the existing lifestyle of people while making new spaces that can enhance their daily routine and live work activities. ‘Echelons’ also tries to highlight the natural relationship of places and people before the housing process to create enormous activities that make the process of dwelling how it is supposed to be.
