Cities are unable to meet the concurrently expanding demand for housing in this period of rapid and massive urbanization. It is true that cities are becoming employment hubs, attracting significant numbers of immigrants from rural areas, resulting in an increase in housing demand. To accommodate these people, one alternative is to expand urban boundaries, albeit this often results in a greater distance from the city center. As a result, rehabilitation of existing decaying structures may be a superior alternative for maximizing space utilization. In the real estate world, redevelopment is just as important as new construction. While new construction is necessary to meet the growing demand for residential space, redevelopment of existing deteriorating housing stock is also critical in that it generates a larger number of units and more efficient use of building space. The project focuses on redevelopment of  a private housing society in Ahmedabad's Khokhara neighborhood. The major goal is to enhance optimal space utilization by recommending the best product mix for real estate development on the site. Before deciding on the ultimate site, a land-use potential analysis was conducted on ten different locations. Relevant legislation and norms, as well as existing residents' preferences, were taken into consideration when creating the project brief. The project appears to be viable, with the up-and-coming metro corridor serving as a good potential for the location.
