A Story of Transformation of South Isanpur

Lewis Mumford coined six terms for cities depending on their stage of development namely, Eopolis, Polis, Metropolis, Metropolis, Megapolis, Tyranopolis and Necropolis. As a city undergoes transformation from Eopolis to Necropolis over the years, market forces are created that shape cities according to a certain character. The precinct of South Isanpur is currently a Polis that has substantial residential development, industrial areas and minor commercial developments. There were various conditions that gave direction to the precinct’s growth and affected various stakeholders in it with physical and socio-economic changes manifesting themselves and facilitating the process of the precinct becoming a Polis.
