A STUDY ON EVOLUTION OF BAPUNAGAR

The portfolio talks about how the evolution within the precinct, How it shaped Bapunagar to the one that we currently experience. The main objective is to understand the underlining factors that lead to the evolution of the site. What is the major changes that have occurred and how it affects the people in the precinct.  The city of Ahmedabad is renowned for its history of rising and fall of textile mills. The precinct of Bapunagar, covering one square kilometer area, is located at east Ahmedabad and share the same lineage of industrial development and their impact on the built form and eventually the life of its residents The story of Bapunagar starts with the introduction of its first textile mill in 1861, thus providing employment opportunities. The mills completely shutting down by 2005. The focus of the study is the evolution brought about by these changes concerning landforms, built fabric, street pattern, connectivity public realm, choices of people regarding housing, job centers, transit mode and issue faced in the site, along with other parameters. The individual character is studied and the interrelationships between each character are established.
