Analysing Disparities - Juhapura & Vejalpur

The city is a like a huge machine and it takes years together for planners to grasp all the minute details of the workings of a city. The studio aims to expose students to the city and to enable them to develop a perspective to look at problems that are faced by cities. The studio is a foundation level from where the students begin to grasp the basics of the planning. It allows the students to grapple with the fundamental elements in planning. In this scenario Juhapura and Vejalpur provide a unique situation, where both have independently developed.

Prior to development, these areas were part of a village known as Sankalitnagar.

Development began in 1970s, though each neighborhood developed independently, despite being adjacently located.

Initial impressions - Lack of formal infrastructure

Unsafe pedestrians - Poor Walkability

Lack of permeable spaces

Efficient street network, though still inefficient

Street space as a major public realm

Predominantly residential

Future prospects
