Incidental Transformation

The city is a complex system with several layers of information overlapping and impacting each other. These layers of information are generated by people’s perception of space and its transformation within a city. This was studied in “Understanding the City” Foundation studio 2019 at CEPT University. With each student being given a precinct (one square kilometer) to be analyzed through various aspects. The precinct documented in this publication lies in the Southern part of Ahmedabad. It is predominantly a residential area located next to the Chandola lake. The study area has a variety of residential communities varying from informal settlements, row-houses, semi-detached, and well-planned gated societies. Other than this characteristic of prescient, it also revolves around the commercial, religious and public realm aspects. The study area has gone through some major infrastructural changes in the past couple of decades due to communal conflicts. This portfolio is structured to analyze those transformations through the history of the precinct. This portfolio helps us understand the reason behind the transformation and the way these changes have shaped the neighbourhood of the study area.
