Deciphering the dynamics of an Industrial Neighbourhood

The Portfolio documents a study area of one square kilometer referred to as the 'precinct' throughout the documentation. The precinct is located on the Eastern periphery of Ahmedabad within Odhav GIDC, one of the major industrial epicenters of the city. The precinct narrates a story of how a change in land use has transformed the once agricultural land parcel into an emerging Industrial Estate. This transformation set forth migration in large numbers resulting in the formation of a residential fabric in the forms of Kutcha Houses, 'Chaalis' and slums due to the absence of a proper development scheme in its initial years, which was later amended by the sanction of a Town Planning Scheme that allowed gradual development of the are in the coming years.
