Saraspur: Transformation from Industries to Mixed-Use

Ahmedabad is an Indian city in the state of Gujarat. It is the only Indian city to have been designated as a heritage city. Ahmedabad is divided into east and west, as well as old and new, by the Sabarmati River. The old and new settlements coexist in Ahmedabad. Both the old and new have various typologies, density, infrastructure, and so on, which were to be explored in the Foundation 2021 studio at CEPT University's "Understanding the City" program. Each student was assigned a square kilometre of land to research in these different areas. The precinct described in this publication is located in Saraspur, Ahmedabad's eastern suburbs, near the Kalupur Railway Station. The majority of the precinct is residential, with some trade and commerce. The portfolio examines the precinct to determine the impact of the mills' closure on development patterns, building typologies, and other factors. The information in this portfolio was gathered and researched by the author as part of the "Understanding the City" studio at CEPT University's Faculty of Planning. Any errors or inaccuracies are deeply regretted.
