Ahmedabad is one of the major cities which has seen a massive transformation due to initial industrial development that led to mass urban migration. Later on, developing and bringing in more opportunities in commercial and other sectors. Shastri Nagar lies in the east of Ahmedabad, is one of the oldest settlements of Ahmedabad, which is dominantly a residential neighborhood. The place has evolved over time, which has been greatly influenced by the industrial activities around it and has promoted commercial activities with all basic services of society around it and developed in a very mixed-use kind of nature. For this report, a one square kilometer area of Shastri Nagar has been studied to understand the development, functioning, and interrelationship between various factors that impact a city within the city. The objective of the report is to document and articulate the content to understand the urban context and correlation between spatial development, usage, and socio-economic and cultural context of Shastri Nagar through its history and evolution. Further diving deep in to pattern of development and the function of streets, assisted by data mapped on GIS (Geographic Information System) and documentation during site visits through physical surveys, interviews, satellite images, photographs as firsthand information collected on site.
