The Metamorphosis of Peri-Urban Area

This study looks at the transition from peri-urban to urban areas through the lens of the Laxmi Nagar area in Nagpur. The research is conducted as part of the Understanding the City studio by analyzing and mapping urban structure, as well as how the city's old core transformed by shifting residential activity to peri-urban areas, and how the area later changed its identity to Urban Residential Core with further development. For a better understanding, a comparison study between the study area in Laxmi Nagar and the Itwari area in the city's old part is presented. The model is used to evaluate the potential of urban residential areas, as well as their effects on infrastructure, street networks, land use patterns, and people's decisions to improve their quality of life.
