The past two decades were the years of peripheral expansion and rapid growth for the city of Ahmedabad. Many new neighbourhoods have transformed and evolved in this process of urbanisation. Vastral being one of them, is a residential neighbourhood situated at the Eastern periphery of Ahmedabad. For the purpose of study, a sample area of one kilometre square in Vastral has been studied to understand the dynamics and chronology of this nascent neighbourhood. The primary study of precinct involves a deeper understanding of satellite imagery and GIS mapping along with information collected on site using interviews, photographs and videos.
