RING DYNAMICS

‘Ring Dynamics’ was conceived as a roof with no roof. This idea evolves from the case study which was done on the deployable roof of Starlight Theatre (Rockford). Having studied the case, the idea that the roof should expand the vision of the theatre audience than limit, came up. The context was crucial - that being the CEPT campus (Hathisingh Theatre). Taking that context into consideration, it was important that the proposal responds to the CEPT campus site at large, as well as fit easily into it. The tension fabric and cable that roofs the Shrenikbhai Plaza during the summers, was the most suitable anchor point for the design. And hence, ‘tension’ was key in the designing of the roof. The existing brick jali wall cannot take the load of a strong tensile roof; therefore, a concrete wall in replacement is proposed. However, the scope of the project could be extended to cladding (by bricks) on the outer side, and backdrop for theatre performance on the inner, thereby retaining the context, as well as enhancing the function, Detailed Portfolio.
