Climate simulation modeling for Urban heat studies

The drastic increase in the number of extreme weather events in the past decade has necessitated the need to understand the reasons behind the changing climate and its consequences on the built environment. The Weather Research & Forecasting ( WRF ) model is used to closely simulate the heatwave periods in Chennai, by simulating the meteorology under varying physics parameterizations. The model performance is evaluated using statistical validation techniques to arrive at a model configuration that best represents the atmospheric processes.
