Jadavpur, Bankplot area is a “Colony area”. Refugees came from Bangladesh during the time of partition and without depending on the government they formed their locality by establishing schools, colleges, universities, hospitals and other amenities. This area is the eastern part of the city Kolkata. Eastern Kolkata has the world’s largest wetland area and caters 65% of sewage treatment of the whole city. When people started building their houses they took over this mushy land and filled up many waterbodies. With the rapid growth of urbanization, this area has also developed with new infrastructures. All the basic amenities are provided by the ULB (Kolkata Municipal Corporation) and people do not find any issues with this area other than the water logging issue during monsoon. But, as an Urban Manager, it is our objective to make a place sustainable in terms of environment & infrastructure & also co-existing with the natural infrastructure. The prime objective of this project is to point out the gaps that are going to affect our future like water scarcity, lack of landfill areas as well the current issues that are faced in the locality like water logging & health hazards due to improper garbage disposal and try to find the possible solutions.
