This feature is an examination of built structure and transformation of 1 sq.km area of Sardarnagar in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. Located 3.5kms away from the city center (Gangajaliya Talav), it majorly comprises low residential structures throughout the area. The urban fabric of Sardarnagar is analyzed through various parameters which gives distinctive image to the precinct. The evolution and transformation of the area helps to connect to the development of road network and the built-form. A comprehensive study of roads and a rotary which acts as a public space is conducted to investigate tangible and intangible aspects of the on-road and edge activities. The built-form along the roads were studied to understand how streets interact with adjacent built forms and also with humans. Sardarnagar is predominantly a residential area of Bhavnagar. Because of its residential character, from the demand side the area always required the public open space for the people to-gather, shop, celebrate festivals, etc. On the centre of the 6-node junction of roads namely “Shivaji Circle”, rotary garden is built. The built along the rotary are commercial spaces and also main vegetable market on of the roads emerging from the rotary.
