REVISING RICE

Once the forest dwellers, the Mahadev Koli tribe has shifted to farming as their main livelihood. Rice is main crop in purushwadi, farming in years have shown us shift from framing of many varieties of traditional crops to the hybrid and cash crops, due to which traditional variety are at the verge of extinct. The project aim is to conserve the traditional varieties of rice of Northern Western Ghats and bringing back their traditional framing methods leaving a positive impact and create a sustainable future. The principle is local self-sustainability, depending on the locally produced seeds of indigenous varieties, and access to the seed bank for everybody not in exchange for money, but in exchange of varieties. The design intention is to facilitate a sustainable agriculture system and preserve traditional varieties of rice through understanding of the physical settings and demonstrating the new viable and rooted method drove from existing practices and cultural system of society.
