Enhancing Public Nuance at Bhadra

Site and concern: Being surrounded by Azam Khan Sarai, Bhadrakali temple, and Teen Darwaza makes the Bhadra plaza a unique place in the city. Bhadra’s character is formed by its shops, vendors, and its people. The idea is to redesign a performance space on behalf of prembhai hall considering concerns like parking, lack of relationship with the surroundings, overpowering by its scale, etc.
The intervention will act as a flexible performance space which will be held either in a closed space or in an open space, where drama, musical events, comedy, and other entertainment shows happen. The outside space is designed to organize small-scale performances of 100-200 people where folk and devotional music activities, community, and informal gatherings can happen as well as niches The seating capacity will be 950 almost like premabhai hall's. Recreational spaces like a cafe and small exhibition space are also accommodated in the foyer of the performance space. Space for informal vendors is provided in a manner that it becomes the attractor point for people to move through the open plaza. This public space is a combination of various commercial activities and performances which retain the character of Bhadra plaza to some extent.
