Celebrating Crafts TOI

Celebrating Crafts aims to expose the students with the different crafts of Gujarat (Tangaliya, Soi Bharat, Saadu Bharat, Appliqué, Aari work and Ajrakh block printing) and learning about it through storyboarding and illustrating.

Making illustrations based on the field trips to Rajen Chaudhari's workshop and Surendranagar: using the concept of lines.

Creating a storyboard from one of the incidents of a peer's life using the Kalighat style.

Making an attempt to portray a peer as close to their actual self through a collage.

Field pictures from Surendranagar, Santalpur and Bhuj.

Mapping the Santalpur trip using textiles as the point of focus.

Recalling the Santalpur trip, making a quick sketch of one of the evenings spent at the stay there and turning it into an appliqué work.

Sewing all the Ajrakh block printed pieces together and draping it around metal frames to form an installation.

Storyboarding from a real life incident of an appliqué artisan from Madhutra. Later, creating an installation out of it,

A necklace made out of lights to help the women in the villages work more efficiently at nights.
