Hirawadi - A Stagnant Residential Neighbourhood

Hirawadi was developed as a result of the establishment of the industrial estates. The predominant residential land use comprises varied typology of houses which cater to various income groups. The commercial development in Hirawadi due to the introduction of certain policies and infrastructure have transformed the eastern side. The western side remains stagnant as it hasn’t developed much during the last 25 years. The transport network plays an important role in the development and functioning of Hirawadi. The multifunctionality of the streets fills in the void of public open spaces. It brings the area to life by creating lively and vibrant spaces on the streets thus creating community spaces. This has thus encouraged the people of Hirawadi to live in the same area in spite of the stagnation.
