Naroda: Residential Settlement to a Commercial Magnet

The advent of industrialization in 1960s let to the development of the agrarian town of Naroda on the North-Eastern periphery of Ahmedabad. Throughout the years, development in terms of housing and infrastructure was driven by government policies and town planning schemes. Once rapidly developed as a residential town is now witnessing a stagnated development in residential areas as the growth of housing market has shifted towards the surrounding areas. This urban fringe is now rapidly transforming into a commercial center. The studio analyses and decipher various spatial layers of Makarpura, Naroda. The factors such as desirability, affordability, mobility and accessibility derive and transform the market in Naroda are also studied.
