Ahmedabad city is one of the most populous cities in India. It is expanding like every other city to its core. In order to understand the present scenario of development, physical built form and government planning. The Center for Environment Planning and Technology (CEPT) introduced an academic program( Understanding the City) in Foundation Studio. In which the students have to study different areas of Ahmedabad with a sample of 1 sq.km in planning prospects with study of different parameters. This precinct( Shahpur) is located on the eastern core of Sabarmati river. It  has a wide variety of heritage structures and is planned on the basis of neighborhood concept. It is one of Ahmedabad's older historic neighborhoods that saw slow growth after the 19th century.
