The Twist

Wood kerfing is a method that is used to bend wood in the required manner, like for a bend of 30 to 90 degrees, twist, kerf on both sides, and endless possibilities can be achieved. As the tangible behavior changes of the wood, so do its other various physical properties like density, load-bearing capacity, modulus of elasticity, and so on, therefore further analyzing it for its strength in the lab. After exploring kerfing a great deal various modules were explored at a 1:1 scale which is sturdy and durable, which further can be multiplied and used to design a structure of 3x3x3m. The final design is a Mobius with a set of certain parameters which is cut in half and to be installed for exhibition purposes. The leaf module is used in a vertical orientation in the form, using it to its structural advantage and connected together using 3D printed joints and threaded rods. The structure was analyzed as well for dead load and minimum live load making sure that if required to build at a 1:1 scale, it is structurally safe.
