The Adaptable Dwelling

The site presents a dynamic character of house and street relationships, a desire of people to be able to change their surroundings the way they want and a contrasting population living together. The past is far behind us and the future is unforeseeable. But there is still a need to learn from the past and address what will hit us in future, while designing for the present. Some of the basic assumptions about future are with regards to the transportation systems and the way people live. This project aims to address these concerns of the site, while retaining their character as well as while designing for the future. It aims to give individuals more decision making power so as to change the space they live in according to their lifestyles with minimal disruption to the entirety of the building. The building is seen as a kit of parts of constant supports and dynamic units. The idea of flexibility is explored at the scale of a vertical living, that can retain the nature of past, address the problems of present and avoid the fear of obsolescence in future.
