Exploration of Design - Material in Focus

The studio will require students to produce construction drawings for the design problem keeping into considerations their learning from relevant exercises conducted during the semester tenure. The process will require students to: o study various determining properties of a construction material (from identified material palette) o in reference to the design problem, evolve a combination of their own material palette o conceptualize & develop interior layout and various elements of interior space (seating element, working (table) element, storage, partitions, false ceiling layout, flooring layout etc.) adhering to the programmatic brief o suitably nomenclature the drawing with essential dimensions, specifications and surface finishes o via studio discussions understand the sequence and method of construction as undertaken on site and align drawing production in relation to same. o generate 3D models (physical and/or digital) and walkthroughs to demonstrate the design decisions in form of built spaces The final outcome will be in form of detailed construction working drawings ( floor plans, sections, elevations ) for their design and detail drawings for identified elements of interior space ( partition, furniture like seating, storage, etc.)

Studio Unit

Collage of rendered Images of Student's works (Reception Areas, Work Areas, Conference Room, Store room). The images demonstrate the exploration in design of spaces and furniture that is resultant of the design philosophy and chosen material, complimenting the profession of work.

Reception table - Youtuber's office. Response to a trendy and tech oriented work space.

Storage for Pantry - Architect's office. Demonstration of design response and subsequent choice of material to achieve space optimization.

Work Desk Table - Toy Designer's Office. The fluid design outcome is a resultant of choice of material to represent playfulness.

Workshop Storage Area - Upcycling Company's office. The conscious choice to use recycled wooden crates, plastic drums, paper tubes, etc. demonstrates the clear intent of design in direct correlation to the company's business.
